COAPE International, the Pit Bull Federation of South Africa (PBFSA) and the South African Government have joined hands as a task team in a united effort to educate the public and Pit Bull owners about the breed. Pit bulls are often misunderstood; this lack of understanding has led to tragic accidents happening and resulting in loss of both human and animal lives and the subsequent stigmatization of this breed. This, in turn, has resulted in an increase in abandonment and euthanasia rates.
To address this problem, the task team members have combined their resources and expertise to offer education and support to everyone who interact with these dogs: COAPE International is a leading provider of global animal behaviour education, while the PBFSA promotes responsible pit bull ownership.
This collaboration between Government, COAPE International and the PBFSA aims to promote responsible ownership of Pit Bulls by providing education and training resources to all. Through their combined efforts, they hope to reduce the number of Pit Bull related casualties occurring in South Africa, and by providing education and support to owners, they aim to reduce the number of dogs surrendered to shelters and euthanized due to behavior challenges.
