DISPELLING MYTHS Continued

NANNY DOGS & LOCKING JAWS

The “nanny dog” theory, which suggests that pit bulls are inherently good with children, is misleading; while many pit bulls can be gentle and affectionate, their behaviour largely depends on individual temperament, upbringing, and training rather than breed alone.

Similarly, the notion that pit bulls possess “locking jaws” is a myth; their jaw structure is similar to that of many other dog breeds, and they do not have a unique mechanism that allows for locking.

Understanding these misconceptions is crucial, as it promotes a more accurate view of pit bulls and encourages responsible ownership based on behaviour rather than stereotypes.
