ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

It’s time to face the truth about the breed we say we love.

The Pit Bull Federation of South Africa (PBFSA) is speaking out — because the silence is killing our dogs.

For years, responsible professionals, trainers, and ethical rescues have tried to educate the public about what it really means to own a Pit Bull. But we’ve been drowned out by the noise of denial: by fans of the breed chasing ego, amateur trainers spreading misinformation, and unethical rescues promoting dangerous myths.

📌 The truth?

Pit Bulls were bred to fight.

They were purposefully and selectively bred for their ability to engage, fight, and kill other dogs. That’s not an opinion — that’s history. Their genetic inheritance is dog-directed aggression, not human aggression. But when we ignore this fact, we set these dogs up to fail.

📍 No, they’re not nanny dogs.

📍 No, they weren’t bred to be family pets.

📍 Yes, they are powerful, tenacious, and biologically driven to bite and shake.

So why do we see so much cruelty?

Why so many pit bulls wrongly chained, dumped, injured, or dead?

Because people fall for the fantasy. They buy into the lies. And when the reality doesn’t match the myth — when their sociable, sweet pup matures and shows behavioral issues they weren’t prepared for — they abandon, abuse or euthanize the dog.

This isn’t the dog’s fault.

This isn’t the breed’s fault.

This is OUR fault — humans who refused to face reality.

We are seeing an escalating crisis — more serious attacks, more fatalities, and louder calls for a breed ban. And let’s be very clear: it is not because of the dogs themselves, but because too many people are failing them.

🔺 If you love the breed, protect it by respecting what it is.

🔺 Accept that these dogs have limitations.

🔺 Stop placing them in situations that they are not genetically wired to handle.

🔺 Stop pretending they are no different than any other dog.

🔺 Stop promoting them as harmless, family-safe dogs without honest context.

We urge all trainers, rescuers, and owners who truly care for this breed to stop spreading sugar-coated messages that put these dogs and others at risk. Share this post. Speak the truth. Protect this breed before we lose it forever.

💬 If we don’t change the narrative, the public will write one for us — and it will end in legislation, mass euthanasia, and heartbreak.

It’s not too late to turn the tide — but only if we stop lying to ourselves.

Let’s honor the dog for who and what it really is.
